The UK drug testing system has come under fire after the country’s drug watchdog revealed the value of weed gift cards was almost triple what it was previously thought.
The National Drug Intelligence Service (NDIS) announced that a total of 2,638 gift cards, worth a total amount of £1.9bn, had been received from users in the UK in the past two weeks.
Of these, 2,000 had been redeemed for weed.
In total, 2.5 million gift cards had been sold on the UK’s online drug markets, according to the NDI.
Drug-test results also revealed that weed gifts were also being given to British citizens in France and Italy, with 1,300 cards issued for the same.
A spokesperson for the NDIS told BBC News: “We are delighted to report that cannabis has now become a popular choice of gift for many British users, who are increasingly looking for ways to enhance their experience of their country.”
